Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent: 23:12:57 Hi Simon, thanx for your input man. Im not using the neon shader.
But i have about six buildings in a resort setting and about 6 million triangle objects and so it crashes. Ive tried deleting the buildings one at a time and render but its not working.the best was render was a very low resolution one. Is there a way to reduce all those polygons? I heard somewhere you can do it but not sure if u can in Artlantis. Thanx Jon Chedda Messages: 1088. Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent: 06:21:50 Oh right.

6 million is getting kind of high Jonathan. I remember before 1 million was considered the limit for the 32 bit version. I am not aware of artlantis being able to make the polygons lighter.
If your scene contains multiple similar buildings making an object and copying it may help. I think you should be creative with layers so you can hide what is not showing in each view. Of course if you want the masterplan showing everything your still in trouble. Try to use low poly trees & cars if you are showing the whole site at range they will still look good.Did you try the 64 bit version? To be honest i never use the 32 bit only for opening and saving out sketchup files it just doesn't handle large geometry well. I am not too familiar with your project but i think now you will have to try and think laterally. For example in your killer big view do you need all the interiors in your buildings could you hide them on a layer?

The program you tried 'Polygoncruncher' is the same program I use now for more than one year and for me it works absolutely fine. But I think it's the same problem like using ATL. Polygoncruncher only handles larger scenes in 64bit version and to be honest I never tried crunching a whole scene because this might cause further problems with textures, etc. Usually I would say the best workflow to built up a large scene like you did will be to model only the architecture in CAD and import to ATL. All other things have to be added in ATL on separate layers.
I think it doesn't matter what render software you use. You will always have to take care about the number of polygons. That's why I usually have two type of objects to be used.
Low-poly for far away and high-poly for close ups. If you can't reduce your scene I think the only program I know which is running with these large amounts of polygons and this even in 32bit is Vue. But handling will be much more complicated and rendertimes will be about 10 times higher. Cheers Patrick jono Messages: 62.
Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent: 11:18:15 Hi guys, I seem to be having the same problem as Jonathan. I have a scene with 239 three storey buildings for high density housing.
The site is 2,7 hectares. I modeled the site flat (without contours) but with level differences for street and pavement. I think I modelled the sketchup model fairly efficiently as it is only 5,1mb (plenty of groups and components). I only modelled the facades as I will have other models for interior shots. Even so, the sketchup model itself lags on my machine (and I happen to have a pretty good machine that the company bought specifically for renders and animations). The Artlantis file, however, is huge (495mb) and crashes randomly.
It has 8989759 polygons. And I haven't even put in trees or any other scale elements yet:( Sometimes it wont even open, sometimes it crashes while rendering, and sometimes just when navigating. I haven't yet tried polygon cruncher, but I get the feeling that it wont help much with models on this scale (especially considering I originally modelled with efficiency in mind). Nevertheless I will give it a try. I need to produce an animation for this project, and all the work I will be doing in future will be of a similar scale. Meyer Messages: 5. Re: artlantis crashes when trying to render Sent: 14:34:26 Hi Guys, first of all I'm a little wondering about the size of this scene without any decoration.
8 million polygons is quite huge and almost not to handle with ATL 32 bit at all. In the 64 bit Alpha this should work if you have enough RAM (12+). I made the experience that ATL 3 32bit usually crashes by something more than 3 - 5 million polygons. But there are many other render engines having same problems. I think only possibility is trying to make your model less heavy. Cheers Patrick Chedda Messages: 1088.
